About Us:

Mahindra University’s Centre for Life Sciences has major focus in research undertaken by faculty trained in modern technologies such as personalized medicine, genome editing, metabolic engineering, GMOs, molecular diagnostics, nanobiotechnology, bioprocess modelling, biosensors, green products, stem cells & regenerative medicine, biomaterials, biomedical devices, computational biology, clinical informatics, etc.

Position Overview:

The Research Scholar will be involved in developing and implementing genomic approaches and bioinformatics tools/pipelines for capturing trait-specific genes in a nutraceutical plant species. Opportunity will be to collaborate with the ICAR-NBPGR research station and G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Retrieval of whole genome datasets for a nutraceutical food crop (Fagopyrum spp.)
  • Generation and analysis of NGS transcriptomic data sets from different genotypes
  • Mining genomic and transcriptome datasets for genes controlling nutritional traits
  • Integrating genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolic datasets towards building biological networks
  • Undertake GWAS analysis on populations to capture SNPs associated with economically important traits

Qualifications:

M.Sc or M.Tech having qualified CSIR-NET/GATE or national level examination by the  DST/DBT/DRDO/ICMR/IIT/IISc/IISER with 2-years post-PG experience

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in molecular biology and genomics of plants
  • Experience in handling high throughput genomic datasets
  • Hands-on experience in performing basic molecular biology techniques in plant systems
