Research at Mahindra University has been adopted as the primary activity which helps to enhance the teaching-learning process, and also to develop a unique identity as a university that has committed itself to address societal issues through its research and innovations. The Research and Innovation division aims to continuously liaise with various funding agencies, R&D institutions, industries, and faculty members of the university to take the onus for undertaking innovative research in cutting-edge areas. It facilitates faculty members for interaction with scientists and experts in various fields and keeps abreast of the developments in respective areas and exchanges ideas for development and innovation.

With the aim to achieve the vision of Mahindra University, the faculty members of the university strive towards the development of Basic and Applied Research, which caters to the industrial needs, the training, and involvement of students. ​The research areas at MU are predominantly engineering-focused. With the unique orientation towards contributing to the rise of new leaders in India, MU has teams working in the fields of media, economics, and humanities.​

Around twenty research teams are involved in the different areas of research depending on the projects they are developing.

The research areas at Mahindra University are predominantly focused on the unique orientation towards contributing to the rise of 'Future Leaders' of India.

Research at MU is organized focusing on high level projects identified / developed by the faculty members. The Research areas at MU are predominantly Engineering focused, due to its unique orientation towards contributing to the rise of new Engineers in India. Around twenty research teams are involved in these different areas, and depending on the projects they are developing. MU is in receipt of research grants from DST and other Government agencies.
