Dr. Deepak Pawar is an Assistant Professor at the School of Digital Media and Communication, Mahindra University. He holds a Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Osmania University and is a UGC-NET JRF awardee. Trained at Annapurna College of Film and Media, he has acted in films including Andhaka, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Reservation, as well as Telugu plays such as Gothilo Manishi and Dahanam. His expertise includes journalism, filmmaking, acting, graphic design, digital media, AI and immersive media, advertising, and development communication.

Deepak Pawar

Assistant Professor

He is an Assistant Professor in the School of Digital Media and Communication at Mahindra University, where he contributes to interdisciplinary teaching and practice-based media education. He previously served at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj University and has over a decade of experience spanning academia, media production, and creative communication.
He earned his Ph.D. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University. His doctoral research, titled “Ageing and Film: Representation of Older Characters in Hindi Commercial Cinema,” examines ageing, representation, and visual culture in Indian cinema. Dr. Pawar is also a UGC-NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awardee (2018) and has qualified the UGC-NET (2017) and the TS/AP State Eligibility Test (2015). His teaching areas include journalism, digital media, graphic design, filmmaking, visual communication, video editing, advertising, public relations, media ethics, communication theory, and media research. He actively integrates emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, immersive media, VR/AR, and digital storytelling, into creative media education. Dr. Pawar’s research interests include ageing and cinema, colour theory in film, visual storytelling, digital narratives, media representation, AI-assisted media production, and immersive communication technologies. Alongside academic research, he engages in filmmaking, photography, television production, print and digital design, and content creation, emphasizing ethical, socially responsive, and future-oriented media practice.

My research areas include film studies, visual storytelling, and media representation in Indian cinema, with particular focus on ageing, identity, and cultural narratives in Hindi commercial films. I am also interested in colour theory, symbolism, and visual aesthetics in cinema, along with digital storytelling and emerging narrative forms in new media. My current work explores the intersection of filmmaking, visual communication, artificial intelligence, and immersive technologies in contemporary media production, audience perception, and digital culture.
