George Varghese

Dr. George Varghese is an Associate Professor in Economics and Finance at the School of Management, Mahindra University, with a Ph.D. in Applied Economics–Finance from IFMR, a Master’s in Applied Economics from Pondicherry University, and postgraduate diplomas in Investment Management and Foreign Trade. His research spans empirical macroeconomics, development and open‑economy economics, financial econometrics and especially energy economics/finance, with multiple ABDC‑listed international publications (Applied Economics Letters, Journal of Economic Research, Journal of Public Affairs, Journal of Emerging Market Finance, Research in Finance). He teaches financial time series, Indian financial system, public economics and microeconomics, and currently leads MU‑funded projects on crude‑oil volatility and pandemics’ impact on global financial markets.

George Varghese

Associate Professor

George Varghese currently serves as an Associate Professor in the area of Economics and Finance at the School of Management, Mahindra University. Prior to this assignment, George served as an Assistant Professor in Economics at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar School of Economics University, Bangalore; and as a lecturer on contract at IFMR Graduate School of Business, Krea University, Andhra Pradesh. He did his Ph.D. in the broader area of Applied Economics-Finance at the Institute for Financial Management and Research. He holds a master’s degree in Applied Economics from Pondicherry Central University. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Investment Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Foreign Trade.

His research so far has mostly been in the area of Empirical Macroeconomics, Applied Economics, and Finance with a special focus on energy markets. His areas of research interest broadly include Development Economics, Open Macroeconomics, Financial Econometrics, Energy Economics, and Energy Finance among others. George has to his credit several publications in internationally reputed journals such as, Applied Economics Letters, Journal of Economic Research, Journal of Public Affairs, Journal of Emerging Market Finance, and Research in Finance.

Prior to joining the School of Management, Mahindra University, George has taught courses such as Financial Time Series Analysis, Indian Financial System, Public Economics I, Public Economics II, Microeconomics I, and Microeconomics II to students both at Post-Graduate as well as Under-Graduate levels.
