The research areas at MU are predominantly engineering-focused. With the unique orientation towards contributing to the rise of new leaders in India, MU has teams working in the fields of media, economics, and humanities. Around twenty research teams are involved in the different areas of research depending on the projects they are developing.

The Department of Mathematics aspires to evolve into a centre of excellence in Applicable Mathematics and Scientific Computing. The department strives to publish its research work in high impact peer-reviewed journals. Further, we intend to actively collaborate with industry and academia to create cutting edge solutions to emerging industrial and societal problems.
The faculty of the department consists of young and motivated individuals working in various research areas such as Mathematical Modelling, Partial Differential Equations, Delay and Fractional Differential Equations, Dynamical Systems, Image Processing, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematical Finance, Stochastic Analysis, Functional Analysis, Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing, Optimization and Optimal Control, Mathematical Biology, and "Applications to Biomedical Engineering".
The department offers a wide range of intensive courses on Elementary and Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Integral Transforms, Complex Analysis, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Numerical Analysis along with MATLAB. Apart from core courses, the department also offers various elective courses covering a broad spectrum of advanced topics in pure and applied mathematics. Further, we encourage and mentor our students to carry out research projects.
The faculty members are actively involved in internal and external collaborations and have published their research work in peer-reviewed international journals and prestigious national/international conference proceedings. Further, we have obtained research grants from SERB, the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The department is also engaged in organizing national/international conferences in pursuit of forging valuable collaborations and showcasing its research work in the scientific community.
