Dr. Anjali Rajan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Management at Mahindra University, with a Ph.D. in Economics from IIM Calcutta and research interests in labour economics, inequality and discrimination, and applied macroeconomics. Her work analyses structural change in India’s labour force through the lenses of gender, caste, and informality using large datasets such as NSSO employment surveys, NFHS, and National Income Accounts, and she previously taught at O.P. Jindal Global University and Bennett University.

Anjali Rajan

Assistant Professor

Anjali Rajan has a Ph.D. in Economics from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Her research interests are Labor Economics, Economics of Inequality and Discrimination, and Applied Macroeconomics. Her thesis titled “Essays in Structural Change in Labour Force- A View from the Standpoint of Caste, Gender and Informality” is at the intersection of Labour Economics and Economics of Inequality and Discrimination. Her thesis work is focused on understanding the dynamics of labour market changes from the perspective of three axes of inequalities – gender, social groups (caste), and quality of employment (formal and informal employment). She has worked extensively with large datasets like NSSO Employment surveys, NFHS, National Income Accounts etc. Her papers were selected for presentation at national and international conferences such as The Indian Econometrics Society Conference, the 3rd Development Economics Conference, Seminar on Kerala and World Economy and RCEA Future of Growth Conference.

Anjali completed her Master’s in Applied Economics from Centre for Development Studies, JNU. She did her internship with the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of Kerala & Director, State Planning Board during this period. She graduated with a 3rd rank in BA Economics from Mahatma Gandhi University.

Besides research, Anjali is passionate about exploring issues relating to Environment and Sustainability, Feminist philosophy, Malayalam literature and indigenous cuisines.
