Mahindra University to Host Session Highlighting Hospitality, Engineering and New-Age Careers for Northeast Students

Guwahati, 18th June 2026: India’s Northeastern states are witnessing a rise in tourism, hospitality and service-led industries and students from the region are increasingly opting for careers which are beyond traditional streams. Accordingly, Mahindra University will be hosting an information session for students and parents from the Northeast, led by Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor at Mahindra University and Chef Thirugnanasambandam (Chef Thiru), Dean, School of Hospitality Management, on 28th June 2026 at Novotel Hotel, Guwahati from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Chef Thiru will be sharing insights on how the hospitality sector is growing far beyond traditional hotel management and has emerged as a dynamic, technology-enabled and globally connected industry with increasing opportunities for students.

Dr Yajulu Medury, Vice Chancellor at Mahindra University said, “This region is at an interesting point in time where we are seeing new job opportunities within the sectors of tourism, hospitality, infrastructure, and services. Success in this evolving world is contingent upon our youth’s capacity to blend technical skills with creativity, communications, business acumen, and problem-solving. With this session, we hope to bring awareness to both students and their parents about the latest developments and how multidisciplinary training can assist in shaping their future.”

Northeast India is a fast-emerging tourism destination. The travel and tourism sector currently supports more than 80 million jobs in India and is expected to witness sustained growth over the coming decade. This expansion is creating strong demand for skilled professionals equipped with business acumen, technological understanding and service excellence.

Chef Thiru, Dean, School of Hospitality Management “Students from Northeast India carry something rare — cultural warmth, multilingual fluency, and a culinary heritage no classroom can replicate. India’s booming hospitality sector, from Hyderabad’s iconic food culture to Rajasthan’s heritage circuits and Kerala’s backwaters, needs exactly this kind of grounded, people-first talent. Through this session, we aim to connect the right students with real industry exposure, entrepreneurial pathways, and international opportunities across the Europe, USA and Southeast Asia. Hospitality is not a fallback — it is a future.”

Mahindra University’s School of Hospitality Management is reimagining hospitality education in India. Moving beyond the conventional hotel management approach, the School offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates hospitality with business strategy, analytics, technology, sustainability, entrepreneurship and experiential learning. Students benefit from industry immersion and a multidisciplinary ecosystem that prepares them for leadership roles in the evolving service economy.

During the session, Dr Medury will be focusing on Mahindra University’s legacy, establishment and evolution into a multidisciplinary institution. The university offers courses across faculties including Engineering, Management, Law, Design, Communications, Hospitality and Education.

The École Centrale School of Engineering offers over 15 specialised programmes aligned with emerging industry requirements, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, VLSI Design, Computation and Mathematics, and Electronics and Computer Engineering. These programmes are designed in consultation with industry experts, keeping in mind the rapidly changing technological landscape.

The university has recently introduced BBA in Infrastructure Management, aimed at addressing the growing need for professionals capable of managing large-scale projects and site operations in the real estate and infrastructure sectors.

The information session will provide students and parents from the Northeast with valuable insights into emerging career pathways and how interdisciplinary education, industry integration and experiential learning are shaping the future of higher education. As sectors such as hospitality, tourism, engineering and infrastructure continue to evolve, Mahindra University aims to equip students with the skills and perspectives required to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and innovation-driven world.
