Padma M. Sarangapani

Prof. Padma M. Sarangapani is Dean and Professor and at the Indira Mahindra School of Education, Mahindra University. Previously she was a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, specializing in education, curriculum design, and teacher professional development.
She completed her M.Sc. at IIT Madras (1988) with a Merit Scholarship, earning a University Gold Medal in Mathematics during her earlier B.Sc. She completed her Doctorate in Education from the University of Delhi, during which she received the Fulbright pre-doctoral fellowship (1993-1994). Subsequently, she has been a recipient of the prestigious Indira Gandhi Memorial Fellowship (1999-2001), and the Commonwealth Academic Fellowship (2014-2015).
As Chairperson of the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CEIAR) and Principal Investigator for the Connected Learning Initiative (CLIx) with MIT, her leadership has earned international recognition, including the UNESCO-King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize (2018) and the OER Award for Excellence in Collaboration (2019). Her extensive academic and policy contributions include shaping national and international education frameworks, such as serving as a member of the NCTE committee for Professional Standards for Teacher Education (2021), Chairperson of the Niti Aayog Working Group on Secondary Education (2017), a member of the NCERT NCF 2005 Steering Group, and contributing to global policy dialogues with UNESCO and the Teacher Task Force. She has served as an advisor to Tata Trusts, a member of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and editor of Contemporary Education Dialogue, alongside designing innovative programs including the MA Education, Integrated B.Ed-M.Ed., and practice-based M.Phil/Ph.D. in Education, and the BElEd. She has published extensively in the areas of school education, education policy, teacher education , and pedagogy. She was editor-in-chief of the Handbook of Education Systems in South Asia (Springer Nature), and has been PI for the State of Teachers Teaching and Teacher Education Report for India.
