Major research areas include:

  • Textile-Reinforced Concrete (TRC) and Fibre-Reinforced Composites – investigation of textile and hybrid fibre reinforcements, including alkali-resistant glass and basalt fibres, for strengthening and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete members.
  • FRP and Hybrid Composite Systems – research on CFRP, BFRP and GFRP systems, including strengthening of beams, beam-column joints and RC frames, with particular emphasis on cyclic behaviour, anchorage and durability.
  • Sustainable and Lightweight Construction Materials – development of lightweight cellular concrete, precast wall panels and innovative lattice-structured blocks aimed at reducing structural weight and improving thermal and acoustic performance.
  • Waste-Based and Natural-Fibre Materials – utilization of industrial and agricultural wastes, such as foundry sand and natural fibres, in concrete and building materials to promote circular and sustainable construction.
  • Structural Strengthening and Resilience – development of innovative strengthening techniques for enhancing the strength, ductility, durability and seismic performance of existing structures.
  • Bio-mimicked structures – Sustainable Construction and Energy-Efficient Buildings – development of materials and construction systems that contribute to energy efficiency, resource conservation and low-carbon infrastructure.

Current research

  • Current research is directed towards the development of multifunctional, lightweight and sustainable construction materials and structural strengthening systems. Particular emphasis is being placed on precast lightweight cellular concrete wall panels, lattice-structured cellular concrete blocks, hybrid textile-reinforced concrete, and fibre-reinforced composite systems.
  • A key objective of the ongoing work is to integrate material innovation, structural performance, sustainability and digital technologies to develop practical construction solutions with improved strength-to-weight ratio, thermal insulation, durability and resilience. Use of AI and digital tools is being explored for documentation and preservation of heritage construction knowledge, thereby connecting traditional Indian construction practices with contemporary engineering technologies.
