Dr. Vishal Mishra is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at École Centrale School of Engineering, Mahindra University, specializing in SAR/InSAR interferometry, Geospatial AI and deep learning for geohazard detection, and UAV-LiDAR photogrammetry. He teaches Advanced Surveying and Water Resource Engineering at the undergraduate level. He holds a dual Ph.D. + M.Tech degree in Geomatics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, has authored more than 20 research papers and book chapters, and has received several honours including the MSCA Seal of Excellence from the European Commission, the Mitacs-SICI Globalink Research Award, and the Helmholtz Visiting Researcher Grant.

Vishal Mishra

Assistant Professor

Dr. Vishal Mishra is an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at École Centrale School of Engineering, Mahindra University. He has authored more than 20 research papers, which have been published in international and national journals and as chapters in books.

He holds a dual degree of Ph.D. + M.Tech (Geomatics Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India, and a B.Tech. in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur. His research interests span Geospatial AI, SAR interferometry, and UAV-based remote sensing, with a focus on geohazard detection, dam and reservoir monitoring, and digital twin applications for critical infrastructure.

Prior to joining Mahindra University, Dr. Mishra served as a Project Fellow and Research Associate at the International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED), IIT Roorkee, where he worked on AI-based dam monitoring using SAR/InSAR, GLOF inventory preparation, and the development of a live Seismic Hazard Data Dashboard of India using ArcGIS Enterprise. He was also a Visiting Scientist at the GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam, Germany, and a Technical Consultant at Raveneye Geospatial Pvt. Ltd., an IIT Roorkee-incubated startup, where he led UAV-LiDAR landslide surveys in the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

Dr. Mishra has received several honours, including the MSCA Seal of Excellence from the European Commission, the Mitacs-SICI Globalink Research Award, the Georgius Agricola Scholarship, and the Helmholtz Visiting Researcher Grant. He serves on the editorial board of Springer Nature’s Discover Earth Observation and has reviewed over 170 manuscripts across international journals.
